Han Joyoung
한조영(b.1980)은 도시의 빛과 건축적 구조, 시선과 지각의 관계를 회화로 탐구한다. 개인의 불안에서 비롯된 감각을 출발점으로, 도시를 단순한 물리적 장소가 아닌 개인의 존재와 사회적 구조가 교차하는 심리적 풍경으로 바라본다.
낯설게 인식된 도시의 빛과 구조는 풍경과 주체, 실재와 환영, 물질과 비물질 사이의 긴장을 드러내는 회화적 장치로 작동한다. 작가는 회화를 완결된 이미지가 아니라 시간과 행위, 색의 반복과 적층, 물감의 흔적이 축적되는 과정의 장으로 이해한다. 이를 통해 보이는 것과 보이지 않는 것 사이의 거리, 그리고 감각과 지각이 회화의 물질적 언어로 전환되는 방식을 탐색한다.
단국대학교 서양화과와 동 대학원 회화학과를 졸업하고 조형예술학과 박사과정을 수료했다. 중앙미술대전을 통해 본격적인 작품 활동을 시작했으며, 개인전과 다수의 단체전에 참여해 왔다. 작품은 경기도미술관, 국립현대미술관 미술은행, 63스카이아트미술관 등에 소장되어 있다.
Han Joyoung (b. 1980) explores the relationships between urban light, architectural structures, vision, and perception through painting. Beginning with sensations rooted in personal anxiety, he approaches the city not simply as a physical place, but as a psychological landscape where individual existence intersects with social structures.
Urban light and architectural forms, perceived through a sense of estrangement, function as pictorial devices that reveal tensions between landscape and subject, reality and illusion, and the material and immaterial. Rather than treating painting as a completed image, Han understands it as a process-based field in which time, gesture, repeated and layered color, and traces of paint accumulate. Through this process, he investigates the distance between the visible and the invisible, and the ways in which sensation and perception are translated into the material language of painting.
Han received his B.F.A. in Western Painting and M.F.A. in Painting from Dankook University, where he also completed the coursework for a Ph.D. in Plastic Arts. He began his professional practice through the JoongAng Fine Arts Prize and has since presented numerous solo exhibitions and participated in group exhibitions. His works are held in collections including the Gyeonggi Museum of Modern Art, the Art Bank of the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, Korea (MMCA), and 63 Sky Art Museum.
